Postgraduate Research Degrees

In mid-2001 the Department was able to offer a research based, postgraduate program at three levels, Master of Arts (Research), Master of Arts (Honours.) and Doctor of Philosophy, on a full time or part time basis.

An initial enrolment of ten (10) students (half Indigenous, half non-Indigenous) have been pursuing an intriguing range of issues encompassed by the nature/idea of "Indigenous", some being :-

Supervision by qualified staff is available both within and outside the Department.

A related postgraduate degree, a Master of Arts (Social Health), in which a strong Indigenous focus is available, is offered by the Department of Psychology. (website link). This postgraduate degree is primarily based on course work with a minor thesis.

All research based degrees offer funding assistance for research related activities and is available through the Department, the Division (SCMP) and other university sources. links

Applications for research degrees can be made twice a year, mid-year and end of year. Offers of acceptance are based on academic background, previous research (or equivalent) experience and the relevance of the proposed research area to that of the Department's interests and capacity to support the research proposal.
