ITAS Mentor (Tutor)
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities under the supervision of the Director of Warawara:
- Assist students as independent learners through appropriate strategies
- The ITAS mentor plays an important role in supporting and assisting Indigenous students to complete their university studies. The Mentor provides vital encouragement and educational assistance in order to achieve appropriate educational outcomes for the Indigenous student.
- The ITAS Mentor should also develop an understanding of individual student educational needs and an awareness of the resources available to address those needs.
The ITAS Mentor should assist students to:
- Improve critical thinking
- Understand their own learning styles and strengths while working to improve areas of weakness identified by the student
- Improve the students' research skills with a view to the student being able to carry out individual research independently
- Evaluate key course readings and any other literature required
- Assist the student to develop organizational and time management skills
- Develop planning, drafting and editing skills
- Develop flexible learning alternatives based on an understanding of the students' knowledge base
- Develop oral and written language skills appropriate to the discipline and level of university studies.
